Student Story: Joint Degree (two subjects) at Bath Spa University

Karolina moved to Bath in 2018 to start her BA degree at Bath Spa University. Here is a short overview of her time there (so far):

1. What’s your name? What do you study? Why have you chosen this specific faculty?

My name is Karolina (from Poland), I'm studying Business and Management with Creative Computing Joint with modules for Festivals and Events Management (I changed it in my second year from Business and Management Festivals & Events) at Bath Spa University.

I have chosen Bath Spa because the city and campus are beautiful and appealing and universities at home (Poland) do not offer specific pathway in Festivals & Events.

2. Was it a good idea to choose studies abroad? Why?

Personally, I think it was a great idea for me to study abroad because it allowed me study something that I'm passionate about and step outside of my comfort zone (in a great way). It also gave me so much more opportunities to gain experience and meet new people.

3. What makes your university special/unique?

We have loads of speakers from the industry so it's not just theory. Very hands-on approach. Sheep and cows right outside campus.

4. How much time do you need to spend at the university? How much time do you spend on your studies/course work?

Around 12-14h of lectures, seminars and workshops per week and then between 5 and 8h of independent study time on top of that (per week as well). Lecturers usually would tell you how much are they expecting.

5. Describe a typical day for you (morning to evening)

Wake up, get ready, pack food (important if you want to save money and not buy anything on campus), eat breakfast and leave the house. Then I would have lectures, work or try to do some homework or assignments on campus (I am more focused there, as opposed to my house with my bed tempting me). Usually in the evening I would have society meetings or just meet up with my friends and relax.

6. What would be your advice for anyone who is planning to study abroad?

If you really feel like it's for you, just do it. It will be scary and stressful but in the end, 100% worth it.
